In this blog post, we are going to explain what threaded bars are and how they might be of use to you!
Threaded bars are used widely within the construction industry as a type of fastener to provide structural stability to walls, ceilings, ductwork, and more. You might also know a threaded bar as:
A threaded bar is a type of fastener that consists of a long, straight metal rod with threads that run along its length. These threads are generally cut with a machine and are compatible with nuts, washers, and other threaded accessories. Threaded bars are available in a variety of diameters and lengths, and are typically manufactured out of stainless steel, zinc-plated steel, aluminium, and brass to suit a range of requirements. They work similarly to a long bolt or screw, designed to provide superior rigidity between two materials when joining them together.
Threaded bars are used for various purposes which we have listed below:
There are many types of threaded bars, each having their own unique features and functions.
Fully threaded
A fully threaded bar has threads which run along its entire length. They are the most popular type of bar, as the full thread allows nuts and washers to mate at any point along the rod.
Double-end stud
This type of threaded bar is threaded equally at both ends of the rod; however, they do not meet up in the centre, creating a smooth middle segment. Due to the unthreaded section, double-end studs can be used with unthreaded holes and are commonly used in the fabrication of doors.
Tap-end stud
Tap-end studs are similar to double-end studs with threading at both ends of the rod, however, the threaded section is longer at one end than the other.
Hollow threaded rod
Hollow Threaded Rods are designed with an opening at each end of the rod, which is connected across its entire length. This makes this type of rod ideal for electrical work, as cables and wires can be passed through the rod to mount light fixtures.
