Definition of Suspension System

Suspension is a system of Tyre, springs, shock absorbers etc. The tuning of suspensions is found involving the finding which aims to give the right compromise. It is really very important for the suspension to keep the road wheel in contact with the surface of the road as much as possible, as all the roads or ground forces which are found acting on the vehicle do so through the contact patches of the tires.

The suspension is mainly responsible for protecting the vehicle itself and any cargo or luggage from damage and wear or tear. The design of the front and rear suspension of a car can be different. Therefore, here is a description of both types of suspension system about which one should definitely know.

Front Suspension Systems

Mostly in the front suspension system types which are found to be used in passenger cars and light trucks are known to be the conventional coil spring, Torsion Bar and MacPherson Strut Systems. These are found in the most full-sized cars which is used either through the coil spring or torsion bar system.

The strut system is usually found to be used commonly in most of the import vehicles, as well as in new front wheel drive designs along with the down-sized domestic vehicles. The feature which is most commonly known of each suspension system is found to be the same which is used to support the vehicle at its designed height, to maintain proper wheel alignment, to maximize tire contact accompanied with the road surface and to also absorb the shocks transmitted through the tires and the road. Whereas, this method is typically used to do this, and is found to be different for all three systems.

Rear Suspensions Systems

The leaf spring accompanied with the coil spring are known as the non-independent suspension which are found to be the most common in today’s rear drive vehicles. Their solid axle design are found to exhibit some of the same wear characteristics which are similar to the solid axle front systems.

The effect is not found to be as dramatic as the rear wheels do not pivot. Discussing about the front wheel drive, it can be said that the independent rear suspensions are found being more prominent. The rear suspensions are found to be independent as they are the ones which are found offering improved performance in the rear wheel drive vehicles for some time.
