How to use flash calls as automatic verification on WhatsApp

09 Nov.,2023

In order to improve the user experience, WhatsApp is developing a number of new features. An alternate method of user authentication is apparently being introduced by the Meta-owned Messaging app. Flash calls are an additional way to connect to WhatsApp without physically entering a 6-digit code.

The new method is nearly automatic. The "flash calls" function of the instant messaging software is now available in WhatsApp beta for Android. The programme will automatically log users into their accounts using flash calls.

For WhatsApp's "flash calls" functionality to function, users must grant it access to their location, calls, and SMS messages. Since the phone number that should call you is constantly different, this method is incredibly secure and cannot be used to deceive this feature into logging into many WhatsApp accounts. Additionally, WhatsApp won't utilise this feature in other circumstances or use your call history data for any other uses.

Notably, WhatsApp for Android is the only platform that supports the feature because iOS does not offer a public API that would enable the app to access call history.

WHAT ARE 'FLASH CALLS'?

With the help of WhatsApp's new "Flash calls" function, users can log in to their accounts without needing the six-digit OTP they got through SMS or phone call.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Users have the option to make the procedure automatic by turning on flash calls. Users of WhatsApp no longer need to manually enter the six-digit OTP with this new functionality.

The messaging software will place a brief call to the users. Using that call, WhatsApp will verify users' identities. The programme will use the user's call history for this.
