quartz glass plates

Quartz glass SiO2 also called silica glass is a very important material for industry and research. Quartz glass, which has a low coefficient of thermal expansion similar to borosilicate glass, is only attacked by a few acids and, in comparison to other technical glasses, withstands high temperatures of up to 1100°C. In addition, it has high thermal shock resistance. In quartz glass, we have to distinguish between natural quartz glass and synthetic quartz glass. Synthetic quartz glass (fused quartz glass or fused silica) is produced from pure silicon tetrachloride (SiC14) in a flame pyrolysis process. For natural quartz glass, however, rock crystal is ground into powder and melted using a hydrogen/oxygen flame. Quartz glass has many positive properties such as high temperature resistance, good thermal shock resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion and high purity. Quartz glass not only has particularly good chemical resistance but also good light transmission. Therefore quartz glass is also often used in optical applications because quartz glass offers excellent optical properties in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared wavelength range. Due to these properties it is also frequently used in laser applications. Thus quartz glass is one of our frequently used technical glass which is used in many fittings for high-temperature applications.

Natural quartz glass has excellent transmission in the UV range. Synthetic quartz glass (fused silica) is of the highest purity due to the special manufacturing process. This quartz glass has an extremely high purity and few inclusions and is therefore particularly advantageous for optical applications.

We supply quartz glass plates as round, angular or oval (tongue-shaped) cuts, as tubes, cylinders or also as glass rings.
