Viking Group building Indiana plant to make plastic-coated steel pipe

Viking Group Inc. is opening a plant in Richmond, Ind., that will use new technology to make plastics-coated steel pipe.

Viking, a manufacturer and distributor of fire protection products, said its MV Pipe LLC subsidiary will make Fendium pipe at the plant.

The facility will be built on 40 acres and is set to begin construction in 2023. When it is completed in 2024, it will employ 111.

"This new facility will be instrumental in the introduction of our new Fendium pipe to the U.S. market," Viking President and CEO James Golinveaux said in a news release.

Fendium pipe has a polymer coating on both the inside and outside to protect against corrosion.

"Fendium is a game-changing product in the fire protection industry, offering advanced corrosion-resistant properties making it a highly attractive option for a wide range of applications," he said.

Fendium pipe use a proprietary and patented process and is currently available in Europe.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. (IEDC) invested around $1.5 million in incentive-based tax credits and $67,500 in training grants in MV Pipe LLC.
