ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. — You know the saying: There's "gnome" place like Minnesota in the winter.

Well, maybe that's not exactly what people say. But this January, St. Louis Park is launching a city-wide scavenger hunt that'll get you outside all month long.

Starting Tuesday, Jan. 3, the city will launch its New Year's gnome search. Each week a different New Year's gnome will be placed somewhere in one of the city's parks, and it's up to you to find it.

Clues on the gnome's wintry whereabouts will be posted on St. Louis Park's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. You can also sign up for GoDelivery emails to get your clues.

Whether you take the time to hunt for the gnomes or stumble upon one accidentally, legend has it that the tiny garden dwellers are symbols of good luck. So snap a photo and share it on St. Louis Park's social media pages to soak up some of that luck as you head into the new year.

Gnomes will stay in their locations throughout the month of January. If you find one, be sure to leave it in its place!
