Rapid detection of whether starch is added to RDP(redispersible polymer powder)

As we all know, high-quality RDP(redispersible polymer powder) is an important mortar additive.A very sad phenomenon today is that some manufacturers choose to mix starch in the production of RDP to increase viscosity without increasing ash content. This kind of RDP is very likely to cause poor mortar bonding, easy hollowing, easy to fall off, etc, causing huge quality risks for construction.

As we all know, high-quality RDP(redispersible polymer powder) is an important mortar additive that can enhance the mortar's bonding ability, water and weather resistance, workability, flexibility and crack resistance, as well as flexural strength and wear resistance. A very sad phenomenon today is that some manufacturers choose to mix starch in the production of RDP to increase viscosity and get profit margins without increasing the ash ratio in the lab. Such kind of RDP is very likely to cause poor mortar bonding, easy hollowing, easy to fall off, etc., causing huge quality risks for construction.

Rapid detection of whether starch is added to RDP(redispersible polymer powder)

Today, let you use simple tools and methods to do a quick test.

Step 1:
Mix normal standard RDP and RDP to be tested with water, with the ratio of RDP to water being about 1:2.

Step 2:
Stir the two powder solutions thoroughly.

Step 3:
Drop several drops of medical iodine into the solution.

Step 4:
Observe the color of iodine tincture on the solution. The iodine on normal RDP is still brown, and the iodine of RDP with starch will turn blue or purple.
