Itafos Inc. resumed production and sales of sulfuric acid at its Arraias phosphate operation in Brazil, following the successful recommissioning of its 220,000-tonne-per-year Sulfuric Acid Plant.
Itafos said Feb. 8 that the recommissioned plant is expected to operate at a base load capacity of 10,500 tonnes per month. Arraias has secured off-take agreements for the plant's base load capacity and expects to sell additional output on the spot market.
Plans to recommission the sulfuric acid plant in Arraias, which had been idled since 2019, were announced in October 2021. The remainder of the facility's infrastructure — including the mine, beneficiation plant, acidulation plant and granulation plant — remain idled.
