The Dust seal - LinkedIn

Dust seal (wiper) , preventing the dust or some particulate matter get into the hydraulic cylinder.

Langnuo Mining Equipment Product Page

There will be a lay of oil adhere to the rod, the dust and particulates will be bond with oil then taken into the cylinder cause damage to oil cylinder, cause leakage, therefore, we need to set a seal to keep the particulates away.

The DEF dust wipers are an outstanding choice for light and medium duty hydraulic and pneumatic applications. The slotted heel design prevents pressure traps from forming between the rod seal and wiper. Broad tooling availability, up to 30', makes the seal a good choice for large rod diameters. the snap-in design is oversized for a snug fit and excellent stability. This makes the seal a great all-round wiper in economical package ;)

The dust seal usually made of the rubber like NBR, PU, PTFE. There are many kind of type:

1) DPS

The performance characteristics of DPS dust seals are following:

·External circle positioning is reliable

·Good scraping and dusting effect

·The dust ring can be used over a wide temperature range

·There is no backpressure between the sealing ring and the dust ring

2) DRH \ LBH

The performance characteristics of HRH \ LBH dust seals are following:

·Good scraping and dusting action, and it can prevent the remaining oil film on the piston rod extension.

·Good scraping and dusting effect

·The dust ring can be used over a wide temperature range

3) ADA

The performance characteristics of ADA dust ring are basically the same as that of

DRH \LBH type, with only some changes in structure.

4) KDI

KDI applicable to oil pressure, when the medium is mineral oil, the applicable temperature range is -35 ~ +100℃; when the medium is water and gas, the applicable temperature range is ≤70℃, its characteristics are as follows:

·Good interference fit

·There is no interstice to the outside between the piston rod and the dust ring

5) DPE

There are two NBR O-ring with a PTFE ring make up the DPE.

It is used to improve the overall sealing performance, and the joint use with the rod sealing ring is better. The characteristics are as follows:

·Excellent adjustment and positioning ability at work

·High functionality guarantees that all operations can be accommodated in a short period of time

·High wear resistance

·Low friction coefficient, no slippage

Viewing a thread - Two piece wheel bearing dust seal _ proper name?

Anyone know the exact description of those types of dust, oil, grease seals used on areas, like:

Front tractor 2wd tractor spindles/hubs, or  JD no-till coulter bearing/hub

They have the wear insert (steel or plastic ) driven into the hub, and the "seal part" slips/presses onto the spindle; behind the larger, inward wheel bearing. AND you are able to remove inner bearing, without destroying your "typical style" of dust seal, to inspect or repack wheel bearings.{The ones, I've seen, have a triple lip rubber seal}

I been searching, on google images, to find a website and maybe come up with the proper term/language to find some custom sizes = no luck, so far. (My goal to alter some gravity box wheel bearings, to this style, and create an easier method of repacking wheel bearings. (cheaper, too and don't have to drive to town, for more seals; after initial cost )

Thanks,

Here's a photo, of a front tractor wheel bearing kit, that somewhat shows the style, I'm trying to explain:

Yep, that's the style, but it only shows two sizes that use that "Type B" style.

Thanks, (I'm going to use those two part numbers and do some more searching )

I'm still looking, but I remembered, I have also seen them with "rubber bumps" on both spindle (ID ) and hub (OD ) and the oil seal actually spins, in the center, of the seal itself ( I think those are called "unitized" seals. ) This style could be removed and reused, quite easily; IF I found the right one.

Thanks to you guys,

On your second link, fig #7 = X15 (model number/style ) and that is what I found in the catalog that Gerald had me download = these show the seal part, but not the "wear ring" part. (Maybe I'm making the assumption that these two pieces would come as a "set" and you would just choose the correct inner and out dimensions and the two parts, would come as a unit. )

I would rather not run these seals without a wear ring, because the wear would occur on the inner diameter of the hub, itself; and I suspect a type of "Speedi-sleeve" would be necessary to cure that, in the future.

No need to do that.

Like I mentioned, those 2wd tractor front spindles, have this style (that I've repacked ) and JD no-till coulters, and now that Gerald mentioned it, I think some of the JD Disc wheel bearings were that way, also. Gerald might be right, maybe the manufacturers put together, what "sizes" work together (wear ring and triple lip seal ), to make a package for their product.

(inner style triple lip seal, fit on spindle )

Honestly, I didn't think it was going to be this difficult to find a "set". (Note: I don't have to go this route, I can still just buy regular dust/grease seals and pound them in )

We do have a really good parts guy, at the NAPA store, and I will stop and ask him about his sources, Tomorrow.

I even think Dad's Bush Hog rotary cutter wheels/hubs use this style, too. (They have the grease zerk, in the cap, and you just grease a little everyday, and it pushes out any excess )

Also, I may be overthinking, the need for a wear sleeve, too; for gravity boxes that only get used 1.5 - 2 months per year.
