Right Tips to Remove the Sweat Stains off Fitness Wear

10 Feb.,2022

Fitness apparel is designed to enhance performance. Most are made of synthetic materials that are designed to stretch and wick away moisture. But once you're done working out, these fabrics can become unpleasant to smell. If your sweat-soaked clothes are stacked in a pile or a basket, bacteria can grow and cause the smell to linger and get worse.

Removing sweat stains

Keep in mind that most sportswear is made of synthetic fibers and needs to be washed in cold water. This means you must remove sweat stains before you start washing your sportswear, as you won't have hot water to help you. When you take a proactive approach and learn how to remove sweat stains before they set permanently, your sportswear will look newer and smell fresher.

Rinse the stained garment in warm water for five minutes to dilute the stain.

Wring out the clothes.

Pretreat the stain with baking soda paste, detergent and distilled white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide.

Allow the stain remover to work on the stain for 30 minutes.

Wash the sweatshirt in cold water with regular detergent.

Do not throw the garment in the dryer until you are sure the stain is gone, as the heat from the dryer will permanently set the stain.

If you are washing dark-colored sportswear, follow the same steps to remove sweat stains, but do not use hydrogen peroxide.

Wash as soon as possible

If you have just sweated badly and your clothes are soaked, wash them immediately. If you didn't sweat too much, you may want to put on your workout gear again before washing your clothes. But experts say that if you want to prevent odors, you should wash your workout clothes after each use.

Soak it.

The key to breaking down dirt, sweat and grease in performance fabrics is distilled white vinegar.

Mix one part white distilled vinegar with four parts water in a container. Submerge the sweatshirt in the water and let it soak for 30 minutes before washing. If you don't plan to throw them in the washing machine right away, rinse the clothes with water and let them drip dry before tossing them in the hamper.

Use only cold water

Hot water will break down synthetic fibers and cause shrinkage. Use cold water to set your load on a delicate cycle to help your workout clothes retain their shape, breathability and overall longevity.

Skip fabric softeners

The worst thing you can do when washing synthetic fabrics is to use fabric softeners. Fabric softeners can damage pliable fabrics and leave a film that can absorb more odors. Fabric softeners can degrade performance fabrics and make them increasingly difficult to clean. You'll end up with workout clothes that don't perform as well as they should and smell worse than they have to.

Natural air drying

The heat generated by dryers can damage performance fabrics and change shape, flexibility and fit. Exposing sportswear to the heat and friction of a dryer can damage delicate fabrics. Heat can weaken elastic fibers, which can lead to tears and holes. For best performance and extended wear, it is best to air dry any clothing with natural sunlight.
